About Dave DeRanFor more than 50 years, Dave DeRan has created paintings, sculpture, murals, and commissioned works inspired by nature, rural architecture, and history. He is a naturalist and perhaps best known for his photo realistic paintings and portraits. In the 1990s, Dave introduced surrealism in the form of shadow boxes and folk-art inspired painting.
Dave is the youngest of five siblings. His childhood was spent in the dairy farm landscape of northern Maryland that inspires many of his works of rural realism. As a child, Dave found an envelope of his drawings his father had saved. This discovery made clear that his father and others believed in his talent and set him on a course of artistic self-discovery. After his service in the Marine Corps ended, Dave returned home to pursue his art. Dave and his wife Roxanne, an elementary school teacher, met at an art show and were married in 1974. Their love story spans five decades and includes frequent canoeing trips, family gatherings, and impressive folk dancing skills. |
